Jesi Mendez

Spanning four (4) decades of professional hairdressing and make-up artistry, JESI MENDEZ is recognized as one of the country’s top beauty authorities in the country today. In 2015, he was cited as one of the Salon Icons by the salon and beauty industry led by Hair Asia Inc.

Mr. Jesi started out as a simple entrepreneur in 1970 and opened a modest hole-in-a-wall beauty parlor in Buendia, Makati, then renowned for its bridal makeup expertise. The salon business later bloomed into a chain of seventeen big branches located in high-end metropolitan malls. The salon chain caters to a wide range of clientele – from celebrities, young professionals, models, business and political personalities, housewives, entrepreneurs, students and even regular male clients.

Mr. Jesi is the pioneer in setting upscale salons in malls. He set the trend in professionalizing and upgrading the services by constant training , mentoring and coaching his hairstylists and employees. He also believes in motivating and empowering the staff and bringing out the best in them. This is the reason why many of his employees have stayed with the salons for many years.

Jesi Mendez has covered wider markets than any hairdresser in his category with his salons’ .strategic locations in the malls: from Cash n Carry in Makati to Robinsons Metro-East in Cainta, to Robinsons Place in Ermita and Robinsons Galleria, to the upscale Glorietta mall in Makati and at the New World Hotel, and at the trendy Alabang Town Center .

At present, the chain employs some 400 well-trained hairdressers, technical staff and support employees. As a brand name, Jesi Mendez offers its professional services and boasts of high quality of salon services at affordable prices in all its salon branches.

   Socorro Alicia "Cory" R. Quirino
Socorro Alicia "Cory" Quirino is an honoree of the 2019 Philippine Innovation Man of the Year initiated by the Philippine Innovation Entrepreneurship Mission, Inc. She is the first woman honoree in three years history.

Cory Quirino is a multimedia personality- a TV host of ANC’s lifestyle magazine show “Graceful Living” and anchor of Tele-Radyo Wellness Program on DZMM/ ABS-CBN “Ma Beauty Po Naman.” She is a book author of best-selling book “Forever Young.” A former lifestyle columnist of Philippine Inquirer “Inside Out,” she holds the prestigious title as the President of the Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc., and a former License Holder and National Director of Miss World Philippines making the first victory of Philippines in Miss World 2013.

As a kidnap victim in 1995 and survivor turned fighter, Ms. Qurino is the Chairman of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) since February 2018. She is the granddaughter of the Former Philippine President Elpidio Qurino making her a trustee of the Elpidio Quirino Foundation. As an advocate to health, beauty and wellness, she is a Director of the PGH Medical Foundation, Director of Red Cross Muntinlupa, Director of Tuloy Streetchildren Foundation, and Ambassador of Coconut Movement of the Philippines under the auspices of Philippine Coconut Authority.

Philippine Innovation Man of the Year 2018 Honorees
Delfin N. Lorenzana

He became the 36th Secretary of National Defense on 30 June 2016, bringing to the Department his expertise in national defense and security, special operations, foreign military affairs, public diplomacy, veterans affairs and strategic leadership.

As an outstanding Filipino in uniform for almost three decades, Secretary Lorenzana has commanded army infantry units from platoon to Brigade, the Armor Brigade and the Army Special Operations Command. He also served in staff positions at Battalion and Brigade Headquarters, Army Headquarters and General Headquarters. His last posting was as Defense Attaché in Washington DC from 2002 to 2004 where he retired from active military service.

Upon retirement from the military service he was designated as Head, Office of Veterans Affairs at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. a designation which he held until June 2016. As Head of the Office of Veterans Affairs where he played an important role in lobbying for the passage of two landmark US legislations for the Filipino WW2 veterans: the Filipino Veterans Equity Compensation Fund in 2009 awarding USD265M to surviving WW2 veterans and the conferment of the Congressional Gold Medal to Filipino WW2 veterans in 2016.

Secretary Lorenzana entered the Philippine Military Academy in 1969 and graduated in 1973 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Philippine Army. He was born in Midsayap, Cotabato, on 28 October 1948 and raised in the town of Parang, Cotabato where he finished his primary and secondary schooling. After high school, he spent two years at the Notre Dame University in Cobatato City.

Ronald “Bato” M. Dela Rosa

Faced with the daunting task to eradicate crime, the illegal drug menace and corruption in the country, the 21st Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) assumed his post on July 1, 2016 with rock-hard determination to succeed in this mission.

Nicknamed “Bato”, a moniker borrowed from Barangay Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur where he grew up, POLICE DIRECTOR GENERAL RONALD MARAPON DELA ROSA is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “Sinagtala” Class of 1986. From his humble beginnings in Davao del Sur, he was able to finish high school but almost missed college because of financial difficulties, until he passed a scholarship application at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City.

In 1982, he pursued his dream of becoming a soldier and entered the Philippine Military Academy where he graduated in 1986 and joined the Philippine Constabulary (the forerunner organization of the Philippine National Police) as a young Lieutenant. He immediately joined the 11th Regional Special Action Force, his first assignment, afterwhich he joined the Davao City police as a junior officer. He served for many years in the Davao provinces and Compostela Valley where he developed his knowledge and skills in crime fighting and became known as a no-nonsense and tough police officer who got things done.

“Bato” (a Tagalog term for “rock”) as he came to be known, rose from being a young Chief of Police or Station Commander, to becoming the Battalion Commander of the 11th Regional Special Action Force and later Provincial Director of the Compostela Valley and Davao del Sur Provincial Police Offices. He later became City Director of the Davao City Police Office. Prior to becoming the nation’s top cop, he held key posts at the PNP Intelligence Group from 2013 to 2015, then became the Executive Officer of the PNP Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development until 2016.

He is known for leading the Davao City police in successfully implementing Oplan “Tokhang” or “knock and plead”, where policemen knocked on the doors of suspected illegal drug personalities and criminals and asked them to give up and mend their ways. As he said, if they refused to stop, the police will make them stop. Professing a “zero tolerance” approach to rogues in uniform, particularly those involved in the illegal drug trade, he has also vowed to rid the police organization of scalawags.

Throughout his service, he has always placed a premium on continuing education as an important tool in enhancing his skills and expertise as a police officer and a leader. Among others, he attended the FBI National Academy’s 221st Session in Virginia and the US Ranger Course in Fort Benning, Georgia, USA; took the FBI Asia Pacific Retrainer Course and the Air Marshal Instructors Course in Australia; and graduated at the top of his class when he took the Scout Ranger Orientation Course in Tanay, Rizal and the Police Intelligence Officers’ Advance Course. He has a Doctorate in Development Administration from the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City.

A bemedalled police officer, he has the distinction of being the PMAAA Cavalier Awardee for Outstanding Performance in Police Operations in 2015, the PNP Achievement Awardee in the Field of Operations (PCO Level) in 2013, and the PNP Senior PCO of the Year for Operations in 2012, among others. In his three decades in the service, he has received numerous medals such as the Medalya ng Kabayanihan or the PNP Distinguished Conduct Medal which is the second highest medal in the PNP, the Medalya ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod, Medalya ng Kagitingan, Medalya ng Kadakilaan, Medalya ng Kagalingan, Medalya ng Kasanayan, Medalya ng Papuri, Bronze Cross Medals and Military Merit Medals.

In August 2016, he was given an award for Outstanding Law Enforcement by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) during their 18th Founding Anniversary celebration.

In November 2016, he was the first police general and one of 17 Peace Laureates from different countries to receive the Gusi Peace Prize which recognizes individuals and organizations who have contributed to global peace and progress in different fields of endeavor. In the same month, he also received the Vanguard of Peace and Order Award from the Philippine First Investment Council Corporation.

In February 2018, the Indonesian National Police conferred on him the “Bintang Bhayangkara Utama” or Medal of Honor, the highest medal for the Indonesian National Police presented by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The award was given in appreciation “for his important role in cooperation and contribution to the security of Indonesia and the Philippines in the past and for the future.”

Living up to his moniker, POLICE DIRECTOR GENERAL RONALD “BATO” DELA ROSA brings to the PNP his rock-hard commitment and resolve to help his mentor and Commander-in-Chief, President Rodrigo Duterte, eradicate crime, the illegal drug problem and corruption in the country.

On April 30, 2018, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the appointment letter of USEC Ronald M. Dela Rosa as BuCor’s new Director General and was publicly released on May 3.

USEC Dela Rosa’s marching order is curtail the illegal drug activities in the New BIlibid Prison by promoting reformation programs designed for inmates.

Wilson Y. Tieng

WILSON Y. TIENG is an Honoree of the 2018 Philippine Innovation Man of the Year [PHINMAN] commissioned by the Philippine Innovation Entrepreneurship Mission. He is a Filipino-Chinese entrepreneur with established businesses in broadcasting, film, events, product importation and distribution, outsourcing and real estate. He is the President of All Asia Resources & Reclamation Corporation - the reclamation project in Sangley Point which develops to be an International Logistics Hub with Container Port and Airport Complex and an Economic Processing Zone with Cyber or Technoparks. He is the President and CEO of Solar Entertainment Corporation, a pioneer in bringing popular international programming to Philippine cable television with entertainment and sports channels namely ETC, Jack TV, Basketball TV, Solar Sports and NBA Premium Channel which has exclusive TV rights to the NBA since 2002. He is also the President and CEO of Solar Pictures that secures distribution rights to major Hollywood films. On product importation and distribution, Mr. Tieng is the President of KLG International and Director of Winning Touch. He is also the President of Manila Goldcoast Development Corporation whose flagship project is the Manila Solar City, a 148-hectares reclamation along Manila Bay.

Mr. Tieng was born in September 5, 1953, the third among the five children of Filipino-Chinese parents. He graduated in Mapua Institute of Science and Technology in 1975 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

Mr. Tieng was one of the film industry’s stalwarts who lobbied for the reduction of the amusement tax, and the enactment of the Anti Film Piracy Law. He’s been the President of Movie Producers and Distributors Association of the Philippines for the past 20 years, Executive Committee Member of the Metro Manila Film Festival for 13 years and the Manila Film Festival for 9 years, Vice President for External Affairs of the Anti Film Piracy Council since 1997, Director of the Videogram Regulatory Board from 1998-2001, and Director of International Film Festival Commission from 1998-2001, and presently the Governor of Film Academy of the Philippines.

Mr. Tieng has made waves on television and film with grand successes, notable of which is synergizing the three free-to-air TV giants – ABS-CBN, GMA and TV5, for the simultaneous airing of the 65th Miss Universe Pageant in Manila in 2017, and the landmark Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in 2015. He has also set up a new Sinag Maynila, an independent film festival recognized locally and internationally. His attendance in international film festivals such as the Tokyo Film Festival and the Asian Television Festival have promoted the Philippine film and TV industry abroad.

Mr. Tieng is also the Chairman of Magnum Air which operates SkyJet Airline, boasting of the fastest flights to Siargao, Caticlan, Coron and Batanes.

Mr. Tieng was a finalist in the prestigious 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year presented by SGV Foundation and Philippine Stock Exchange.

Philippine Innovation Man of the Year 2017 Honorees
Ramon M. Lopez
Ramon M. Lopez started a solid professional economic, trade and industry development career in the government in 1981. He worked at the Presidential Management Staff Office (1981), the Department of Trade and Industry (1982-1989) and the National Economic Development Authority (1989-1993). He has extensive experience in trade and industry development planning, at the forefront of the Tariff Reform Program, Industry development programs, setting up of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) cooperation programs, technical studies on Countervailing Duty cases, critical consumer products’ price structures and the development of the Foreign Investment Act. This included policy and program development and project evaluation functions.

His government work was followed by a continuous career in the business sector from 1994 to June 2016, with over 22 years of experience as a top executive of RFM Corporation, covering strategic planning and business development, marketing, mergers and acquisitions and equity investors group. He was the Executive Director of the advocacy group Go Negosyo for the past 11 years (October 2005 - June 2016), initiating and implementing all its programs that empower the youth and aspiring entrepreneurs, micro and small entrepreneurs, the underprivileged sectors such as the PWDs, women and out-of-school youths. For the past three years, he was co-hosting the weekly Go Negosyo radio program at DZRH. He has also been giving lectures and mentoring to tens of thousands of entrepreneurs through Go Negosyo seminars, workshops, summits, books and social media. With his extensive experience in various government agencies, private sector and a dynamic entrepreneurship advocacy group, Lopez has gained the admiration and respect of the business, financial and investor communities in the Philippines and abroad.

This could have led to his nomination and eventual appointment as the Secretary of Trade and Industry under the new administration of the popularly-elected President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. As Trade and Industry Secretary, he serves as Chairman of the ASEAN Economic Ministers as the Philippines assumes chairmanship of ASEAN for 2017. He chairs important advisory boards and councils including the Board of Investments, Phil. Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), Micro SME Development Council, Export Development Council and the Industry Development Council, to name a few. In his capacity as the trade chief, he is also among the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade and has been invited to be a part of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and to be a founding member of the WEF-ASEAN Regional Strategy Group and Stewardship Board for International Trade and Investment System. Ramon M. Lopez topped his Masters in Development Economics at Williams College in Massachusetts, USA in 1988 and finished his AB Economics degree at the University of the Philippines’ School of Economics in 1981. He was recently recognized as one of the Outstanding Alumnus of the School.

 Alvin Kingson Tan
Alvin Kingson Y. Tan serves as the President & CEO of the Fil-Chi Media Productions, Inc. popularly known as Chinoy TV. He was the producer of the Mr. and Ms. Chinatown 2016. As a multimedia practitioner, Mr. Tan launched the new division “Chinoy 360” for the ads and marketing consultancy to companies targeting Filipino-Chinese Community; launched the new divison “Chinoy TV Live,” creates events during big Chinese celebrations such as Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival including the new division “Chinoypreneur,” a reality business show that aims to promote entrepreneurship to the youth.

Tan also serves as the President/CEO of Technominds-Easco Inc, the conceptualization of Siglo, a technology based social enterprise targeting the bottom of the pyramid sector. He was awarded as the 2008 Nokia Mobile Entrepreneur of the Year presented by Go Negosyo and Nokia; 2009 Go Negosyo 10 Most Inspiring Young Entrepreneurs; 2010 PBSP-Citibank BiD Challenge Winner; Philippine Representative, 2012 Intel Asia Pacifice Challenge, Bangalore India; One of the 3 Winners, Go Negosyo – Peace and Equity Fund South East Asia Mobile App Challenge, Philippine Leg among others.
